Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre presents

The season opens on Oct. 5, 2018 with Satchmo at the Waldorf, an extraordinary one-man, three-character play that journeys into the heart and mind of New Orleans’ beloved jazz legend, Louis Armstrong. The play takes place in March of 1971 in the backstage dressing room of the Empire Room at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. According to writer TerryTeachout, it’s where Armstrong performed in public for the last time four months before his death. The play was born from Teachout’s experience writing the 2009 Louis Armstrong biography, Pops: A Life of Louis Armstrong. He says, “Like all geniuses, Satchmo was complicated, and that complexity was part of what made his music so beautiful and profound.”
